Federal funding totaling $1.2 million has been allocated to Henry County for the resurfacing of Panola Road, according to an announcement from Representative David Scott. The funds come through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Project Funding Program.

The project will resurface 3.5 miles of Panola Road between Fairview Road and State Route 155. This section serves as a significant east-west route, connecting the Fairview community with DeKalb County and providing access to commercial centers, Stockbridge, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport.

Sam Baker, Director of the Henry County Transportation Planning Department, said that the resurfacing will benefit local communities and businesses along Panola Road. “There are numerous communities and businesses along Panola Road that will benefit from the resurfacing of this road, not to mention the motorists who drive the roadway,” said Baker. “The current pavement condition is rated as marginal and is great need of improvement.”

Congressman David Scott commented on the importance of this investment: “I am proud to announce that the House Appropriations Committee is expected to provide $1,200,000 million in federal funding for the Panola Road Resurfacing Project in Henry County,” said Congressman David Scott. “This vital investment will support the resurfacing of Panola Road from Fairview Road to State Route 155, an essential east-west corridor that connects residents to commercial centers, the City of Stockbridge, and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport. These improvements will enhance safety, ease traffic flow, and support continued economic growth in northern Henry County. I am committed to ensuring this critical project receives the funding it needs to move forward and am working with my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee to get this funding signed into law.”

Representative Scott represents Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, which includes part of Henry County. He has served in Congress since 2003.

Last year, Rep. Scott also helped secure $850,000 in federal funds for resurfacing East Atlanta Road in Henry County. The county recently completed required environmental reviews for that project and expects to open construction bids soon.
