Georgia lawmakers form committee to tackle rising insurance rates

State Representative Soo Hong has been appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns to the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates. This committee aims to address rising insurance premiums in Georgia.

Floor Leader Hong expressed her commitment to addressing these issues, stating, “Georgians across the state are feeling the financial pressure from rising insurance premiums, and this committee is a critical step toward finding real, lasting solutions.” She added her gratitude towards Speaker Burns for the appointment and emphasized her dedication to ensuring fair and transparent operations within Georgia’s insurance market.

The committee will focus on examining rate-setting practices, profit margins, claims processing, and regulatory compliance within the insurance industry. The goal is to protect consumers from unjustified rate hikes and ensure fairness in the market. The findings will be compiled into a report with potential legislative recommendations.

Speaker Burns also appointed several other members to the study committee: State Representatives Matt Reeves, Eddie Lumsden, Shaw Blackmon, Majority Whip James Burchett, Noel Williams Jr., Todd Jones, Emory Dunahoo, Michelle Au, Bruce Williamson, Trey Kelley, Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, Al Williams, Jaclyn Ford, Karen Mathiak, Majority Leader Chuck Efstration and Joseph Gullett.
