The Henry County Chamber of Commerce released guidance on Mar. 16 highlighting the value of media kits for local businesses seeking to improve their public relations and visibility. The Chamber explained that a media kit is a collection of essential business information, including company overviews, executive bios, press releases, product details, and contact information, designed to help journalists and partners cover businesses accurately and efficiently.
The topic is important for Henry County businesses because being prepared with a media kit can make the difference when opportunities arise in Georgia’s competitive metro market. With more than 36.2 million small businesses nationwide, standing out requires more than just quality products or services—it also means being ready to respond quickly to media inquiries.
According to the Chamber, earned media—coverage gained through news articles rather than paid advertising—offers significant credibility. “Ninety-two percent of consumers worldwide trust third-party coverage over every other form of advertising, including recommendations from friends and family — a benchmark that has held as the industry standard for over a decade,” the statement said. The Chamber noted that without a readily available media kit, even compelling stories may be overlooked by journalists who need timely access to company information.
The guidance outlined six core components for an effective media kit: company overview, executive bios with headshots, recent press releases, product or service descriptions, past media clippings, and up-to-date contact information. The Chamber emphasized that keeping these materials current is crucial since outdated kits can be nearly as problematic as having none at all.
Businesses are encouraged to maintain both PDF and web-based versions of their kits for flexibility in distribution. Tools like Adobe Acrobat Online can help convert PDFs into presentation formats when needed for events or partner meetings. The Chamber also recommended reviewing and updating kits quarterly to ensure accuracy.
“For businesses in Henry County and across the Atlanta metro, a media kit is one of the lowest-cost, highest-leverage tools available for public relations — and one of the most commonly skipped,” the statement said. The Chamber invited members to take advantage of networking events and press partnerships where having a polished media kit could create new opportunities.
