The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) has announced plans to rename the Tussahaw Reservoir in honor of Lindy D. Farmer, Jr., its former General Manager. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. It will take place at the Public Use Area known as “Tussahaw Island,” located on Collins Way off Peeksville Road in Locust Grove, Georgia.
Lindy D. Farmer, Jr. was the first General Manager of HCWA and served in this capacity for 40 years until his retirement in 2022. At that time, he was recognized as the longest-serving water utility chief executive in Georgia.
“Tussahaw Island,” where the dedication will occur, opened in May 2010 and is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Additionally, it marks two decades since the completion of construction on the Tussahaw Reservoir.
The newly named Lindy D. Farmer, Jr. Reservoir spans 1,466 acres and holds up to 9.78 billion gallons of water when full. This reservoir provides raw water for drinking water production at the Tussahaw Water Treatment Plant.
The Public Use Area offers various amenities including boat ramps—one accessible to individuals with disabilities—a walking trail around its perimeter, outdoor pavilions, restrooms, and ample parking space. A recent addition near the main boat ramp is a life jacket station providing free life jackets to ensure safe boating practices on the reservoir. This initiative aligns with Safe Boating Week being observed nationally from May 17-23, 2025.
