Rep. Mike Collins, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Georgia’s 10th district, shared a series of tweets on June 6, 2025, discussing historical events related to World War II and the strategic operations undertaken by Allied forces.
In his first tweet, Rep. Collins stated, “After Nazi Germany overran France in 1940, Allied leaders began planning a massive counterattack. The goal: cross the English Channel, break through Hitler’s defenses, and take back Europe.” This post outlines the initial stages of planning by Allied leaders following the fall of France during World War II.
Continuing with the narrative on June 6, 2025, he added another tweet saying that “That plan became Operation Overlord. By May 1944, nearly 2.9 million Allied troops had assembled in southern England, supported by the largest armada in history and over 1,200 planes.” This highlights the scale and preparation involved in what would become known as D-Day.
Further elaborating on these preparations on June 6, 2025, Rep. Collins described how “In the months leading up to the invasion, the Allies waged a massive deception campaign—Operation Bodyguard. Fake armies, dummy landing craft, and false radio traffic were all used to convince Hitler that the main attack would come at Pas de Calais, not Normandy.” This operation was crucial for misleading German forces about the true location of the impending invasion.
Mike Collins has been serving in Congress since replacing Jody Hice in 2023. Born in Jackson, Georgia in 1967 and an alumnus of Georgia State University with a BA degree obtained in 1990; he continues to reside in Jackson.
