State Representative Al Williams of Midway has been appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns to the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates. The committee is tasked with examining insurance rate-setting practices, profit margins, claims processing, and regulatory compliance in Georgia.

“This committee has a real opportunity to shine a light on the practices driving premium increases and ensure that every Georgian, no matter their zip code, has access to affordable coverage,” said Rep. Williams. “I appreciate Speaker Burns’ confidence in appointing me to this important committee. Georgians deserve insurance rates that are fair, transparent and grounded in sound policy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to bring accountability and balance to our state’s insurance system.”

The committee will compile a report detailing findings related to insurance premiums or legislative recommendations aimed at protecting consumers from predatory pricing. This effort seeks to ensure fairness and transparency in Georgia’s insurance market.

Speaker Burns also appointed several other members to the study committee: State Representatives Matt Reeves, Eddie Lumsden, Shaw Blackmon, Majority Whip James Burchett, Noel Williams Jr., Todd Jones, Emory Dunahoo, Michelle Au, Bruce Williamson, Trey Kelley, Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, Jaclyn Ford, Karen Mathiak, Majority Leader Chuck Efstration, Governor’s Floor Leader Soo Hong and Joseph Gullett.
