Rep. Mike Collins, a U.S. Congressman representing Georgia’s 10th district, marked historical milestones and recognized local achievements in a series of social media posts published on July 29 and July 30, 2025.
On July 29, Collins commemorated the founding of NASA with the post: “On this day in history in 1958, NASA was established when President Eisenhower signed into law the National Aeronautics and Space Act.
Created as a response to the Soviet Union launching the first satellite into space during the Cold War, NASA has been responsible for space https://t.co/SuHY2B4fF9” (July 29, 2025).
Later that day, he congratulated a local forestry professional: “Congratulations to @GeorgiaForestry’s Logger of the Year, Tobey McDowell of Jackson, GA!
Thank you Tobey and all our great loggers for your hard work for our communities throughout the state of Georgia. https://t.co/E9S9yaQ9HD” (July 29, 2025).
On July 30, Collins reflected on a World War II naval tragedy: “On this day in history in 1945, the USS Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese submarine after carrying the atomic bomb across the Pacific Ocean.
The ship sunk in 12 minutes, with 300 of its almost 1,200 person crew going down with it. The remaining 890 fought to survive for four https://t.co/kZZyX9WAam” (July 30, 2025).
Collins began serving in Congress in January 2023 after succeeding Jody Hice as representative for Georgia’s 10th district. He secured his seat by defeating Tabitha Johnson-Green in the November 2022 general election and was re-elected against Lexy Doherty in November 2024.
