In a post published at 11:54 UTC, Collins marked the anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, stating: “On this day in history in 2021, a terrorist set off a bomb at Abbey Gate in Kabal, Afghanistan, killing 13 U.S. service members, wounding 45 more, and injuring over 160 civilians. This tragedy followed the Biden Administration’s rushed withdrawal from Bagram Airfield in July https://t.co/CLvqjEJhNd”.
Later that afternoon at 16:24 UTC, he expressed gratitude to law enforcement leadership by writing: “Thank you, @FBIDirectorKash for working to keep our citizens safe. https://t.co/0Ry5HXpDiw”.

The Abbey Gate attack referenced by Collins occurred during the final stages of the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 and resulted in significant casualties among both American service members and Afghan civilians.
Collins assumed office after defeating Tabitha Johnson-Green in the November 2022 general election with approximately 64.5% of the vote and was re-elected in 2024 against Lexy Doherty with about 63.1% support from voters.
