Rep. Mike Collins, a U.S. Congressman representing Georgia’s 10th district since 2023, shared a series of posts on April 7, 2026, highlighting historical events and recent developments in science and culture.
In his first post of the day, Collins marked an anniversary in film history: “On this day in history, John Wayne won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his iconic role as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit. Wayne starred in nearly 170 films throughout his legendary career. He earned his first Oscar nomination in 1949 for Sands of Iwo Jima. He also produced,” (April 7, 2026).
Later that morning, Collins highlighted advancements in space exploration by sharing imagery from NASA’s Artemis program: “Newest photo from @NASAArtemis.” (April 7, 2026).
In a lighter post during the afternoon, Collins referenced both local culture and astronomy: “You can tell how bad a meteor shower is by whether or not the Waffle House is open.” (April 7, 2026).
Mike Collins was born in Jackson, Georgia in 1967 and graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in 1990. He has resided in Jackson throughout his life. Before entering Congress, he succeeded Jody Hice and secured election victories over Tabitha Johnson-Green in 2022 and Lexy Doherty in 2024.
