Oxford College of Emory University recently issued the following announcement.
Southern Circuit: Duty Free
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7 – WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2021
South Arts invites Oxford faculty, staff, and students to join them for Southern Circuit virtual screenings through the month of November. Stream powerful independent films covering a range of important, timely topics including border and immigration issues, confederate monuments, healthcare justice, and domestic violence.
After a 75-year-old immigrant mother gets fired without cause from her lifelong job as a hotel
housekeeper, her son takes her on a bucket-list adventure to reclaim her life. As she struggles to find
work, he documents a journey that uncovers the economic insecurity shaping not only her future, but
that of an entire generation.
Oxford was one of the hosts of the 2021-22 Southern Circuit tour of independent films. An initiative of the Atlanta-based arts organization South Arts, Southern Circuit brings the best of independent film to communities across the South. Audiences have seen over 300 films and have engaged filmmakers in post-screening discussions in more than 100 communities across the Southern United States. The tour connects audiences with independent filmmakers.
