Willie Densley, a technician in the Emergency Department at Piedmont Macon Medical Center, has won the 2022 President’s Award for an act of kindness and selflessness that helped one of his patients.
The President’s Award is the culmination of Promise 360 Awards that are given monthly to employees from each of Piedmont’s entities for making a positive difference in highlighting Piedmont’s values:
- Championing patient-centered care
- Exemplifying teamwork and connections
- Being an owner
- Embracing the future.
“Willie is an amazing human,” Brown said. “He treated the patient like a family member, and that’s how I’d want my loved one treated. The fact that he came in on his own time to care for the patient tells a lot about his commitment to our organization and our community. It’s clear to me that’s who he is.”
Densley won the award for his interaction with a long-term patient in the Emergency Department, but Densley went the extra mile. He showed up at work on his day off with his own grooming kit to give the patient a haircut, a shave and the gift of dignity.
“It is one thing to do good when you are at work and the need is right in front of your face, but it is another thing altogether to take that consideration home and plan in your personal time and with your own possessions to provide for our patients,” one of Densley’s coworkers said in the Promise 360 nomination letter.
Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon and Piedmont Macon North, said Densley is “an exceptional employee who clearly champions putting the patient first.”
“I’m proud we have people like Willie carrying out the Piedmont Promise – to make a positive difference in every life we touch – every single day at our Piedmont hospitals in Macon,” Daugherty said.
Densley said he loves his job and the patients who come through his department.
“I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and all my patients are just like my family,” he said.
The President’s Award, the highest honor Piedmont gives, comes with a $5,000 prize.
