Newton County Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Newton County is offering financial assistance to its residents through the American Rescue Plan Act. The Newton County Emergency Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program. Newton County residents can receive rental, mortgage and utility assistance for eligible households.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? The program can serve renter and mortgage households that have incomes less than 80% of Area Median Income. Who meet the following conditions: Individuals in the household have qualified for unemployment benefits or has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or have experienced other financial hardship due directly or indirectly to COVID-19. Individuals in the household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by being past due on utilities, rent, or mortgage
HOW MUCH CAN a grant recipient RECEIVE?For Rent Maximum 8 months, of which 2 months can be for future rents, and 6 months for overdue rent.
Mortgage Maximum 3 months’ past due and 1 month forward Utilities and Home Energy Cost overdue 1-2 people - $1500 one-time maximum 3-4 people - $2000 one-time maximum 5+ people - $2500 one-time maximum
