Fewer students enrolled in Newton County's only school district in 2022-23 school year

The only school district in Newton County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 17,986 students in the halls of Newton County School District, 0.3% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Newton County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were male, and 49% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black, representing 61% of the Newton County School District's total enrollment.

Newton County School District has a main office in Covington and is the only school district within Newton County.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:15, which is better than the national average of 1:16. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
