FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Training camp has seen several moments that have caused concern, particularly involving Kirk Cousins. These moments are not due to risky behavior or discomfort on the field but rather due to lingering worries about his recovery from an Achilles tendon tear sustained in Week 8 of the 2023 season.

On Wednesday, however, Cousins demonstrated a significant milestone in his recovery. During the team's 11-on-11 period, he executed a scramble to his right under pressure from Atlanta's defense. This move appeared instinctual and fluid, suggesting that the 35-year-old quarterback is physically ready for the upcoming season.

"I have a lot more to go but I am moving well," Cousins stated. "I am able to play the position. I took off today in a two-minute period and I was able to run. I felt no worse for the wear. I felt like I was still moving well. I think I might have given Coach Rah a bit of a heart attack, but I felt good. So, you can rest assured on that."

Throughout training camp, Cousins has been performing at a high level, leading the offense effectively and executing plays with precision. His physical condition appears stable, having passed all necessary checkpoints thus far.

Despite these positive signs, Cousins acknowledges that he has yet to face contact during practice. "It's different getting hit, you know," he remarked. "I have a red jersey on right now. So, when you get hit you have to be strong enough to really be able to stand underneath the weight of not just you but of a D-lineman, so that's kind of where I'm trying to get."

It seems unlikely that Cousins will participate in preseason games this year despite his eagerness to return after missing half of last season—a period during which he delivered some of his best performances.

Wednesday's practice marked not just progress but a significant leap forward in Cousins' journey back to full fitness.
