Atlanta Dream center Tina Charles has set new milestones in the WNBA, becoming the league’s career leader in total rebounds and double-doubles during Thursday night’s game against the New York Liberty. This achievement came on the same day she was inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame.

Charles surpassed Sylvia Fowles, a five-time All-WNBA First Team selection, who held previous records with 4,006 rebounds and 193 double-doubles over her 15-year career.

Joining the Dream as a free agent in February, Charles, who was the first overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, has continued to enhance her illustrious career. She broke Érika de Souza’s single-season double-double record of 18 and became the first Dream player to exceed 500 points and 300 rebounds in a single season.

On August 16, Charles recorded her 3,000th career field goal against the Seattle Storm. Less than a week later, she moved past forward Tina Thompson for No. 2 on the WNBA All-Time Scoring List by scoring a layup against the Phoenix Mercury on August 21.

On August 28, Charles became the first Dream player to record a triple-double with a performance that included 19 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. She is now one of only eighteen players in WNBA history to achieve this feat.

Throughout her career, Charles has been recognized as an elite player. The 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player has received nine All-WNBA First- and Second-Team selections and is an eight-time WNBA All-Star. Additionally, she has been named to four All-Defensive Teams and three U.S. Olympic Teams where she earned gold medals in 2012, 2016, and 2021. She was unanimously selected as the WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2010 with the Connecticut Sun before playing for several other teams including Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, Washington Mystics, and New York Liberty.

Established in Atlanta in 2006, the Atlanta Dream is Georgia's sole WNBA franchise. The team plays its home games at Gateway Center Arena @ College Park and broadcasts locally on Peachtree TV and Peachtree Sports Network across Georgia. Since its inception, it has produced eleven WNBA All-Stars and made three appearances in the WNBA finals among other achievements.
