FOIA Request Sent to Rockdale County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Rockdale County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SE Atlanta News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent to the Rockdale County Election Department in Georgia and seeks information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

In our quest for transparency and accountability, we specifically asked for details on whether the vote counting is being done manually or through an automated process. If it is manually counted, we requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Rockdale County Election Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about this and other issues related to local government affairs.
