FOIA Request Sent to Walton County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Walton County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SE Atlanta News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Walton County Election Department. The request was made for records detailing the methods they are using to count votes in the upcoming election.

In addition, if the votes are being counted manually, we have requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night. This information is vital in our efforts to provide transparency and accountability in public institutions during this crucial electoral period.

Given our role as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have also indicated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to the prompt response from the Walton County Election Department and will continue striving towards holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
