As the hunting season concludes, the Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) is gearing up for the fishing season at Tussahaw and Upper Towaliga Reservoirs. These reservoirs will be open for public fishing from March to November. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as boating with electric or trolling motors, canoeing, and kayaking on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time.

Fishing in these protected reservoirs requires an active reservoir use permit issued by HCWA. Permits are available to customers, Henry County residents, or property owners at the Authority's headquarters located at 1695 Highway 20 in McDonough. Permit holders must comply with rules set by HCWA and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and possess a valid Georgia Fishing License.

A one-year permit costs $50, while a two-year permit is $85. Seniors, veterans, and citizens with disabilities can purchase permits at reduced rates of $25 for one year or $45 for two years. Permit holders may bring a guest free of charge.

Currently, there are 1,355 active HCWA permit holders. The reservoirs attract local anglers due to stricter regulations compared to recreational lakes since they serve as raw water sources for drinking water production.

Public access points include "Tussahaw Island" at Collins Way off Peeksville Road for Tussahaw Reservoir and a boat ramp at 350 Hunter Road off Weems Road for Upper Towaliga Reservoir.

The HCWA Cubihatcha Outdoor Education Center manages public fishing operations on these reservoirs. They reserve the right to close the reservoirs if necessary due to maintenance or severe weather conditions.

The recent hunting season saw three successful hunts organized by HCWA in partnership with DNR. These included two Youth Hunts involving 53 children accompanied by adults and a Veteran’s Hunt attended by 33 veterans. Such events help manage deer populations while providing outdoor recreational experiences.
