The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed tight end Feleipe Franks, as announced by the organization on Thursday. Franks returns to the team after initially joining as an undrafted free agent in 2021. Originally entering the NFL as a quarterback, he transitioned to tight end during his first season with the Falcons and also took on special teams duties.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 228 pounds, Franks offers versatility for the Falcons across multiple phases of play. Despite this, his professional career has been relatively limited over three seasons.
In his rookie year with Atlanta, Franks participated in nine games, recording 14 offensive snaps and 36 special teams snaps. He managed three carries for six rushing yards and attempted one pass that resulted in an interception.
The following year, in 2022, Franks appeared in 11 games with one start. During that season, he logged 54 offensive snaps and 91 special teams snaps but did not record any significant statistics offensively.
Franks was placed on injured reserve due to a calf injury before the start of the 2023 season and did not play that year for Atlanta. In 2024, he signed with the Carolina Panthers where he played all but one game. He had a total of 45 offensive snaps and contributed significantly on special teams with 305 snaps. Notably, he caught his first career reception for twelve yards during a Week 18 overtime victory against his former team, the Falcons.
Currently, Atlanta's roster includes Kyle Pitts and Charlie Woerner as tight ends. While Franks could add depth to this position group, his primary contribution is expected to be on special teams based on past performance.
