The Emory University baseball team returned to the win column Tuesday afternoon, defeating in-state rival Berry College by a 12-3 score at William R. Bowdoin Field in Mount Berry, Georgia.
The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Eagles as they improve to 11-8 overall heading into UAA action this week. The loss drops Berry back down to 7-13.
Freshman Adam Geller and junior Tyler McLoughlin powered the Eagles in the nine-run win with Geller driving in a season-best three runs while McLoughlin picked up three extra base hits, including his sixth home run, and drove home a pair. Senior Steven Hunt added two RBI in the win.
All nine starters in the Emory lineup had at least one hit on Tuesday, with eight of them bringing in one run at the plate. Senior Aaron Mishoulam earned his fourth win in a row, working six innings and striking out four.
The Eagles did all of their damage before the end of the sixth inning, scoring in all but the second inning. McLoughlin plated Emory's first two runs with a double in the first before a solo shot to left in third.
From there, the Eagles poured in the offensive attack with three runs in the fourth and two runs in fifth before the crucial five-spot in the sixth to put the game away.
McLoughlin finished the day with three hits, one of five Eagles with two hits or more on the afternoon as Emory tied a season-high with 15 hits, marking the tenth time this season the team has recorded 10 or more hits in a contest.
The Eagles open the UA slate this weekend with a series at home against NYU. First game in the four-game set is scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday afternoon at Chappell Park.
