Aspiring childcare entrepreneurs are being offered an opportunity to join the Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) Child Care Business and Entrepreneurship Lab. This program, which is set to commence in June 2025, is a six-month cohort-based initiative designed to provide participants with essential tools, knowledge, and resources for successfully launching a high-quality childcare business.

The program offers a comprehensive blueprint aimed at building financially viable businesses. It guides participants through the licensing process and connects them with potential startup capital. Participants will have the chance to collaborate with peers, earn industry-recognized credentials, and develop sustainable business models that support families while creating jobs in their communities.

Participants will also be enrolled in Southern Crescent Technical College's Early Childhood Education Technical Certificate program. A business coach will offer personalized guidance to help launch their childcare businesses. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a one-year membership to their local Chamber of Commerce to expand professional connections and compete for $5,000 in startup funding.

Dr. Irvin Clark, President of SCTC, remarked: “The Child Care Business and Entrepreneurship Lab is a collaborative project between our small business entrepreneurship centers and our credit-seeking programs at Southern Crescent Technical College. The two will combine to serve our communities in bridging a need in childcare with leaders in our community. We are excited to provide Early Childhood Education skills along with entrepreneurship guidance to those that may have not known how to get started in the process of opening a childcare business.”

Prospective participants must attend an information session scheduled by Southern Crescent Technical College at 6 p.m. on February 24 at the SCTC Butts County Center, February 25 at the Thomaston Campus, or February 26 at the Henry County Center. Registration details can be found on www.sctech.edu/ChildcareSBEC.

For further inquiries, individuals can contact Melissa Jackson, Executive Director of Economic Development, via email at childcarebusinesslab@sctech.edu.
