Rep. Mike Collins, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Georgia’s 10th District, expressed his views on historical events, Second Amendment rights, and media outlets through a series of tweets on March 26, 2025.
In his first tweet, Collins commemorated the historic significance of the Battle of Iwo Jima. He stated, "On #ThisDayInHistory in 1945, after weeks of intense fighting, the U.S. declared Iwo Jima secured." This day marked the end of a campaign that included heavy bombing designed to weaken Japan's defenses, allowing Marines to land and eventually raise the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi.
Later in the day, Collins expressed his position on gun rights, arguing against financial barriers associated with the Second Amendment. He tweeted, "I don’t think the Founding Fathers imagined having to pay the government $200 for the right to bear arms." Collins advocated for the repeal of the National Firearms Act (NFA) and the passing of H.R. 335 to alleviate governmental restrictions on gun owners.
In his final post for the day, Collins criticized the leadership of the National Public Radio (NPR) and their stance on free speech. He wrote, "The CEO of NPR has been on a crusade against the First Amendment and free speech for years." He questioned the use of tax dollars to support what he described as "state-sponsored fake news," thanking Marjorie Taylor Greene and the DOGE Committee for their efforts to address the issue.
