Rep. Mike Collins, who represents Georgia's 10th district in the U.S. Congress, has made a series of statements through social media expressing his views on issues pertaining to tribal governance, public health, and infrastructure. On April 4, 2025, Collins, who succeeded Jody Hice in Congress in 2023, shared insights on significant legislative and public policy issues.
On the afternoon of April 4, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, Rep. Collins stated, "I'm honored to join this field hearing examining 50 years of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act — a landmark law that affirmed the fundamental principle that tribal governments are best positioned to determine the future of their communities."
Later the same day, he highlighted disparities in the achievements of tribal communities, specifically citing the Cherokee's advancements while addressing challenges faced by other tribes. Collins remarked, "It's incredible what the Cherokee have done with their hospitals and education system. On the other end, we also have tribes that have been taken over by cartels and overrun with sex trafficking. Thank God for 638 contracts to better serve these communities with local control."
In another statement on the same day, Rep. Collins emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in Georgia, underscoring the state's logistics and business potential. He noted, "Today, @RepBuddyCarter and I led the Georgia Delegation in urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to prioritize the Ports of Brunswick and Savannah. As @TransportGOP Water Resources Chairman, I am dedicated to ensuring that Georgia remains the number one state to do business."
Collins, born in Jackson, Georgia in 1967 and an alumnus of Georgia State University, actively engages in legislative efforts to bolster both local and state socioeconomic development.
