The Atlanta Falcons are focusing on bolstering their defensive squad for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, with particular attention given to the safety position. Team owner Arthur Blank has emphasized the defensive side for the draft.

Starting safety Jessie Bates III will return, but uncertainty remains about his partner, as Justin Simmons is still a free agent. The Falcons have signed free agent Jordan Fuller to potentially fill this position, while DeMarcco Hellams is also in the mix after missing the last season due to an ankle injury. The decision on the starting secondary will likely be made after training camp, indicating room for competition.

Among the prospects considered for Day 1 of the draft is Nick Emmanwori from South Carolina. Emmanwori missed only one game across three seasons with the Gamecocks, amassing 244 tackles and six interceptions, including two pick-sixes. At the 2025 NFL Combine, he impressed with a 4.38-second 40-yard dash and a perfect Relative Athletic Score. Experts see him as strong near the line of scrimmage but needing improvement further back.

Another Day 1 prospect is Malaki Starks from Georgia. Starks never missed a game, tallying 197 tackles and six interceptions over three seasons. His leadership skills and special teams experience are noted assets, making him a valuable candidate for the Falcons. Starks recorded a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Day 2 options include Xavier Watts from Notre Dame, who shifted from wide receiver to defense in college, completing 188 tackles and 13 interceptions. Watts' performance is notable despite not having ideal size, and his effort on the field is recognized by experts.

Another Day 2 target is Andrew Mukuba, who played his final collegiate season at Texas. Having previously been named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, Mukuba totaled 69 tackles and five interceptions in his final season. He ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, showcasing his speed.

On Day 3, Malachi Moore from Alabama presents as an option. Moore has fluctuated roles during his college career but had his most productive season recently. His challenges in size and speed have relegated him to a Day 3 prospect, but his versatility and special teams experience make him appealing.

The Falcons are also eyeing Hunter Wohler from Wisconsin, who recorded 120 tackles during his standout junior season. Though not intercepting passes last season, his strength is shown close to the line of scrimmage.
