There's a heightened sense of urgency for the Atlanta Falcons as they approach their final four games of the 2024 season. Head coach Raheem Morris has acknowledged the critical nature of these matchups, particularly Monday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
"I'd be lying to you if I said no," Morris stated when asked if the upcoming game is a must-win. "There is definitely more to this game than most games. We are essentially playing playoff type football right now."
The Falcons, currently holding a 6-7 record, trail the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by one game in the NFC South. However, they have an advantage due to sweeping Tampa Bay earlier in the season. To clinch the division, Atlanta needs to match Tampa Bay's final record.
Their remaining schedule includes two home and two away games against teams such as the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Panthers. Of these opponents, only Washington has a winning record.
Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett emphasized controlling immediate challenges: "We have to control what we can, and that's the next game. … We want to play in the postseason."
Atlanta had been leading their division until recent setbacks shifted control to Tampa Bay after Week 10. The Buccaneers capitalized on their bye week with three consecutive wins while Atlanta experienced a three-game losing streak.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins expressed an urgent mindset: "Instead of saying we're good... we're not good; we need to do it now."
Monday's prime-time game will test both teams under national scrutiny. The Raiders stand at 2-11 overall and are facing their first prime-time appearance this season.
Despite being favorites on paper, Falcons wide receiver Drake London understands every game counts: "These last four games are huge... everything is a must-win until the end of the season."
