Henry County, GA, April 22, 2025 - The much-anticipated N. Mt. Carmel Park Recreation Center in Hampton has officially opened to the public. The facility was funded by the county's SPLOST V program and aims to serve multiple generations within the community.

During the inauguration, prominent figures such as the Henry County Board of Commissioners, county officials, and various community leaders were present. District V Commissioner Kevin Lewis had the honor of cutting the ribbon, marking the opening of the center.

"This project has been a long time in the making," Lewis remarked, emphasizing the importance of investing in infrastructure and public safety for overall quality of life.

According to Chairwoman Carlotta Harrell, the facility represents a commitment to creating community-oriented spaces that promote wellness and enrich local lives. Attendees were taken on a tour of the new facilities, which boast a modern two-story glass lobby, a variety of leisure and fitness amenities, and plans for future enhancements.

The facility includes a café, electronic gaming room, art room, gymnasiums, an indoor walking track, and spaces for events. A playground is set to be added soon. Upcoming road projects aim to further improve access to this recreation center across District V.

"We are making sure that we are investing tax dollars back into the county so that residents can enjoy all the county has to offer," Lewis added.

Georgia State Representative Robert Flournoy Jr. praised the opening, seeing it as the beginning of broader developments within Henry County.

"This is only the beginning, not just for infrastructure, but there are many amazing things taking place in our county," Flournoy stated.

During the event, the Board of Commissioners and other officials expressed their appreciation for everyone involved in the project. Executive Director of Leisure and Public Services, Jonathon Penn, highlighted the facility's representation of SPLOST's power in enhancing local amenities.

Henry County continues to focus on community growth and development, as demonstrated by the new recreation center.
