As the Atlanta Falcons face the upcoming offseason, one of their key players, center Drew Dalman, is poised to enter free agency. The team may find it challenging to retain their entire starting offensive line due to financial constraints.
Dalman, who was drafted by the Falcons in 2021 as the 114th overall pick, has become a reliable starter on a top-performing offensive line. He has started 40 out of 57 games for Atlanta and contributed significantly to the team's success alongside fellow linemen Jake Matthews, Matthew Bergeron, Chris Lindstrom, and Kaleb McGary.
Reports from ESPN's Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler indicate that the Falcons "are prepared to lose" Dalman in free agency. Graziano noted that while the team would like to keep him, they are concerned about his potential earnings elsewhere. Fowler added that Dalman is expected to command a strong contract in the market.
The financial challenge for the Falcons stems from existing commitments to Matthews, Lindstrom, and McGary, which together account for over 21% of the team's salary cap. This situation makes it difficult for them to match any high offers Dalman might receive.
In light of this scenario, backup center Ryan Neuzil could be considered as Dalman's replacement. Neuzil has experience stepping in as a starter when needed and has performed well during his time with the team since joining as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
With negotiations set to begin on March 10 and the new league year starting on March 12, more clarity is expected soon regarding Dalman's future with the Falcons.
